Texas Hill Country has numerous excellent wineries and vineyards for you to enjoy. We've listed a few of our favorites in this article. Most of these are less than an hour away from Al's Hideaway. Sister Creek Vineyards, located in Sisterdale near Boerne, Texas, is a charming winery housed in a historic 1885 cotton gin. Known for its traditional European-style wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay, the vineyard offers self-guided tours, wine tastings, and a rustic atmosphere perfect for wine enthusiasts. Duchman Family Winery

Duchman Family Winery is located in Driftwood, Texas, a bit of a drive from Al's Hideaway, but a trip that is definitely worth taking. The winery is considered one of the best wine destinations in Texas and one of the most picturesque wineries in the country. Winemaker Dave Reilly uses Texas-grown grapes to produce a variety of wines, including Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Dolcetto wines. The property is set in the heart of Texas Hill Country, surrounded by the vineyards and romantic gardens. You can schedule a self-guided tour or, schedule a private tour, or simply stop by the tasting room during normal business hours.

Kuhlman Cellars

  • Address: 18421 E, US-290, Stonewall, TX
  • Hours: Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Distance from us: 58.3 miles

Located in Stonewall, Texas, Kuhlman Cellars offers a number of proprietary red and white wine blends. Their wines are produced by Benedicte Rhyne, one of the best known winemakers in Texas Hill Country. Besides excellent wines, Kuhlman Cellars is known for signature wine and food pairings and for the winery's beautiful location. At the wine and food pairings, get to sample a number of wines along with bite-size offerings created by chef Chris Cook. When you visit Kuhlman Cellars, you can relax and enjoy yourself indoors or outside. The property features a spacious covered patio and a number of outdoor tables overlooking the vineyard. Note that, if you plan on purchasing a wine from Kuhlman Cellars, your best bet is probably their 2016 Barranca, a highly-regarded, award winning wine.

THE TUNNEL STATE PARK

Enjoy hiking, bird-watching, and general wildlife viewing on the half-mile nature trail at The Tunnel State Park. The trail opens daily at sunrise and closes at 5 p.m. Bring drinking water, as no water is available in the park. Picnic tables are available. Restrooms are only open in the evenings during bat season (May to October).

THE OST

The Old Spanish Trail was used by the Conquistadors, who often followed routes established long ago by Native Americans. The O.S.T. Restaurant has been serving the dining needs of Bandera since 1921, making it the oldest continuously operated restaurant in Bandera County.

BANDERA GENERAL STORE

The Bandera General Store building is 108 years old – built in 1907. It has the original wood floors and the original tin tile ceiling. It has been a saddle shop, a feed store, an appliance store (word has it caskets were sold in the basement and during prohibition the cowboys drank beer and played cards on the empty caskets
